![]() The Division is also committed to the education of patients, families, and members of the community. Professional teaching occurs in clinical settings, in the classroom, and within the context of research. Lancaster provides at least two hours of individual supervision to each intern every week. Lancaster, is a licensed psychologist who is on-site at least twenty hours per week. The team includes many doctoral-level, licensed psychologists. The teaching mission of the Division encompasses undergraduate students, medical students, pediatric and family medicine residents, pre-doctoral psychology trainees, post-doctoral psychology fellows, and practicing pediatricians. Current research programs are related to eating/feeding behavior, obesity, sleep disorders, integrative behavioral health, adherence to chronic illness treatment regimens, transition from pediatric to adult centered care, and health-related quality of life. Faculty within the Division of Pediatric Psychology are engaged in innovative and collaborative clinical and health services research programs. The research mission of the Division is to advance knowledge of the interplay between development, behavior, and health. The Division of Pediatric Psychology provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment for children and adolescents who have problems with growth, development, behavior, or adaptation to illness. The Division has three primary missions: clinical care, research, and education. The program is composed of psychologists who are integrated within medical teams to maximize the overall health of children and their families using principles of behavioral science. The summer before my senior year, I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life: go to grad school for counseling or ministry. Interning at daystar was an experience worth moving to Nashville for the summer. One of the things that I admire about this organization is the striking balance they bring between compassion and competence. Even now in my first job out of college, I find myself constantly using the knowledge and experiences I gained at Daystar from working with volunteers, helping with events, enthusiastically greeting others, and co-leading therapeutic groups. I worked with the development staff and the counseling staff and it was perfect for me to split my time in both areas…not many internships let you do both.
